The table presents the answers of a survey on the percentage of people who drank soft drinks every day over a week period in 2019 in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. It also specifys which soft drinks were drunk by people who completed the survey.

Overall, the percentage of people who drank soft drinks in the UK is around 40%-50%: the country in which people drank the most is Scotland, where 51% of people reported that they drank soft drink every day during that week. In the second place there is Wales, followed by England, in which people who drank these sort of beverages are 45% and 40%, respectively. Bottom of the list is Northern Ireland, in which only 39% of people drank soft drinks.

Looking at England, the most popular soft drink was Coca-Cola: 16% of English people reported that they drank it every day during the selected period. The percentage of people who drank Pepsi is the half of the one of people who had Coca-Cola. Only 7% of English people who completed the survey drank Fanta. Sprite and Irn-bru were the least favorite drinks (5% and 4% of people drank them, respectively) and this trend can be seen even in the other countries, except from Scotland, where Coca Cola was in second place.

In Scotland, Irn-Bru, which is the least popular in the other UK countries, is the beverage that people had drunk the most during the 7 day period (23% of the respondents reported that they drank it). Coca-Cola was ranked second with 11%, followed by Pepsi, Fanta and Sprite (7%, 6% and 4% respectively).

Like English people, the Welsh drank Coca-Cola the most (20%) during the selected week, followed by Pepsi (8%). In Wales the same number of people drank Irn-Bru and Sprite, because the percentage is the same (6%). The least popular was Fanta because only 5% of the respondents stated that the drank it.

Northern Ireland is the country of UK in which people drank the less: the number of English people who drank soft drinks were vastly higher than the Irish one. Like the English and the Welsh, the people from this country who completed the survey drank Coca-Cola the most (18%), followed by Sprite, Fanta and Pepsi (7%, 6% and 5% respectively). The least popular drink was Irn-Bru: the number people who drank it was a ninth of the people who drank Coca-Cola.

  1. Nice answer Giulia ????
    + Very good brief introduction
    + Clear structure
    + Very clear topic sentences
+ Very good variety of ways to show data
+ Lots of good phrases for making comparisons of the data- this is what will really boost your score.
+ Good overview. However, you could also mention which are the popular soft drinks.
    – This should be a semicolon or a full stop (not a colon): “is around 40%-50%; the country”
    – Remember to change countries to an adjective form in phrases like this “Like English people” (English people)
    – There are a few slips that would lower your score: “stated that the drank it.” (they), “the number people” (number of people)
    – Remember “the UK” (also “the Netherlands”, “the US”)
