Nevertheless, these benefits come at an environmental expense. A swift rise in individual car ownership accelerates carbon emissions, adds to global warming and deteriorates air quality. In many progressing urban cities like Delhi and Jakarta, the surge in vehicles has led to alarming pollution levels posing a threat to public health. Furthermore, traffic congestion is escalated by the increased number of cars, not only leading to fuel wastage but also exacerbating emissions as engines idle for extended periods. Even the manufacturing and disposal of vehicles result in noxious waste and use hefty amounts of energy.

While the benefits for individuals car owners are definite, the environmental degradation impacts entire populations and future generations. Issues such as air contamination, climate alteration and natural resource exhaustion present enormous challenges that outweigh the comfort enjoyed by individual car owners. Consequently, it is important for governments to invest in proficient public transportation systems and motivate people to favour more environmentally friendly travel modes.
