I’d like to talk about the glow worm kayaking tour, which is offered in Tauranga, New Zealand. I have seen this on YOuTube when I was watching one of my favourite podcasts “Growing up without borders“, which is a family of five travelling literally every country of the world and they were talking about their tour. Throughout their time in New Zealand they made a kayaking tour at night and I was pretty impressed. So, I did some research. This tour takes place at Lake McLaren in Tauranga. But before the tour starts you have the opportunity to go on a kayak slide, which sounds amazing and exhilarating, or you can try to climb a wall on which you have to pass a kayak in order to reach the top. So, after that, there’s a picnic by the lake, with crackers, nuts, cheese, and that, as well as something to drink. I very much like the idea of it, as this is a nice start to get in the mood, watch the ducks and even watch a (romantic) sunset. Plus, I think just until that point our kids would love all of this. As I`m a little bit of a coward, I also like the fact that a guide explains to you how to put on and use the necessary gear: the splash jacket, the skirt, and how to use the peddle. Once the tour begins, you are on double kayaks, and the sun begins to set. Each kayak is also equipped with a red light that helps the guides keeping track of you. The goal of the tour is a canyon at the end of the lake. And there I think I would be over the moon: honestly, there is a myriad of glowworms shining blue, and when the sky is clear you get to see the stars, which is amazing, too. To me, such an experience is definitely worth it, I mean having this adventure at night is something extraordinary, you also get to know something about the life of glowworms, which is a big plus, and doing sports together is always something that is memorable for the whole family. That said, I`m not quite sure whether it`d be quite easy, as it`d require some endurance and strength to keep on paddling when you`re not used to it, however, as you`re working as a team you`re able to take turns and I think that is beneficial.
