Overall, the percentage of fully electric and hybrid vehicles increases; one category experiences a decline (Petrol) and the proportion of diesel vehicles fluctuates in the three years.
Hybrid vehicles, which accounted for only 1% of the total number of vehicles in 2008, rose by 10% from 2008 to 2018; it is predicted to increase to 30% in 2028. A similar trend can be observed in the number of fully electric cars, which had not appeared until 2018. This type of vehicles represented only 4% of the total number in 2018; however, the proportion is projected to have an eight-fold increase in ten years, reaching 32% in 2028.
By contrast, petrol vehicles, which used to be the significant majority of cars registered in Norway in 2008, dropping substantially to 39% in 2018. The downward trend is expected to continue, decreasing to 11% in 2028. In addition, a fluctuation can be seen in the number of diesel vehicles, increasing from 30% in 2008 to 46% in 2018. The number of this type of vehicles is predicted to decline to 27% in 2028.
