It is firmly acknowledged that studying abroad for tertiary education has become a popular trend for young people. However, there is less consensus on whether this is a positive development or not. In my opinion, studying abroad has more pros than cons.

One main disadvantage is that studying abroad cost a fortune, like high tuition and cost of living. The tuition for international students is often two to three times as expensive as domestic students. In addition, it is costly to live in foreign country, such as expensive rent and cost of living. However, I would argue that those drawbacks can be solved. Many international students have applied the scholarship, even full scholarship, which can overcome the difficulty of high tuition. Furthermore, sharing an apartment with friends and cooking at home can release the pressure for expensive living expenses.

There are two overwhelming advantages for studying abroad. First of all, studying abroad is one of the most efficient ways for young people to broaden their horizon because they are forced to leave their comfort zone. They must make friends with foreigners and try to understand the local culture in order to fit in, which are a useful way to expand their horizon and thinking. Secondly, the pupils who have studied abroad are more competitive comparing to those studying locally. Take Taiwan for example, if you have a diploma from foreign university, it is easier for you to find a job or even get promotion since supervisors believe young people who studied abroad can make more value.

In conclusion, I would argue that studying abroad for higher education has more advantages than disadvantages since it can not only broaden their horizon but also make them more competitive. The drawbacks that studying abroad is costly can be solved by applying scholarship. Additionally, sharing an apartment and cooking your own food can also ease the pressure of high cost of living.
