Motivated learners are much more likely to stick to whatever it is that they are trying to learn. If they’re not motivated, it’s going to be very difficult to put in the time and mental energy. Take learning a foreign language as an example. If there’s no motivation- either intrinsic or extrinsic- for learning a new language, there’s very little chance that someone will be able to dedicate the time and effort required to reach a high-level of fluency- they’ll just give up.
