I’ve recently developed an interest in trying a new outdoor sport, and the inspiration for this came from watching a captivating documentary movie called the Endless Summer. The film was set against the backdrop of a stunning beach next to a vast ocean, where the performers showcased incredible surfing styles. At that moment, I was captivated by the sheer excitement and freedom portrayed in the surfing scenes.

To admit, at first, I didn’t even know what sport I was so enamoured with. I turning to my father, who was enjoying the movie beside me, I realise that it was surfing. Unfortunately, my excitement was dampened when I realized that surfing usually takes place on coastal areas with water waves – something not readily accessible for me. Despite this setback, the idea of being able to move freely on the water surface with just a board intrigued me deeply.

What makes surfing so appealing to me is the sheer thrill it offers. It seems almost magical to be able to ride the waves and experiment with various stances on a simple board. I find it more exciting than other physically demanding sports. There’s a certain allure in the idea of mastering the art of surfing, and it’s something I’m eager to experience firsthand.

I’ve learned, surfing is not a one-size-fits-all sport. Depending on your preference and the type of board you choose, you can engage in various forms of surfing. For example, there’s bodyboarding, where you can lie on your belly, drop to your knees, or even stand up on a bodyboard.

In my country, surfing is not a widely popular sport. It’s like a seasonal fruit – only enjoyed when the right conditions align. Factors such as wind and wave strength, as well as their direction, play a crucial role in determining the feasibility of surfing. While I may not know all the technical details, I appreciate that timing and conditions matter in this sport.

One aspect that resonates with me about outdoor sports, including surfing, is the closeness to nature. The idea of being out in the open, riding the waves, and feeling the natural elements is not only physically invigorating but also mentally refreshing. It’s an experience I’m eager to embrace.

Though I haven’t had the opportunity to try surfing so far, I am determined to do so in the future when I have the autonomy to manage my time and explore the essence of being on a surfing board.
